Non-smoking/Non-vaping Policy
Staff and students are aware of the Tobacco Control Act, which has been passed by the Government of Ontario. This law prohibits smoking on school property, both inside and outside of the building. For St. Cuthbert Classical Academy students, this means:
NO smoking inside or outside St. Cuthbert Classical Academy property.
ZERO tolerance for students caught smoking on or around school property.
If a student is caught smoking:
First Offense: A letter will be sent home to notify the parent/guardian. The letter must be signed, and a fine of $300 must be paid. A copy of the letter will be placed in the student’s OSR (Ontario Student Record).
- Second Offense: A letter will be sent home to notify the parent/guardian. The letter must be signed, and a fine of $500 must be paid. A copy of the letter will be placed in the student’s OSR. The student may be expelled and referred to the Municipal Tobacco-Control Office.
The purpose of this policy is to maintain a smoke-free environment at St. Cuthbert Classical Academy. All students and staff are expected to fully cooperate and comply with the established policy guidelines.
If a smoking incident occurs in the dorm area, the Property Manager will address the issue and deal with the individuals involved in the incident.
Failure to comply with the prohibition on smoking and vaping:
Any individual who violates the prohibition on smoking and vaping in schools or on and around school grounds may be charged. If convicted, they may face a maximum fine of $1,000 for the first offense or $5,000 for any subsequent offense.
