Assignment Due Dates and Late Submission Policy
When assigning new work to a class, the teacher will collaborate with students to set a realistic due date. This ensures the deadline is feasible and allows adequate time for completion and submission.
Handling Absences on Due Dates
Students absent on the due date must meet with the teacher on their first day back to:
- Submit the assignment.
- Explain the reason for their absence.
The teacher will decide whether to accept the late submission with or without a penalty, based on the validity of the explanation.
Extensions for Extenuating Circumstances
If an assignment is not submitted by the due date (or the first day after returning from an absence), the teacher may grant an extension upon review of any extenuating circumstances provided by the student. The new deadline may include a mark deduction, depending on the situation.
Final Submission Limits and Consequences
- Assignments submitted more than 10 school days late will not be accepted, resulting in a zero mark.
- For unexcused late submissions (no extension granted or extended deadline missed), the teacher will consult the Principal to determine further actions.
Missed Assignments Before Course Completion
At the teacher's discretion—and in the student's best interest—missed assignments may be replaced with an alternative task or the original assignment with a new, firm deadline, provided the course has not yet ended.
